My work combines the use of regular pattern with the characteristics of irregular patterns. Each element of the pattern is individually made; the form is constructed slowly over a certain period of time. The finished paintings show a reaction between forms which seen singularly would hardly be visible. I have used the characteristics of geometric patterns in nature as a system of constraints or guidelines when making decisions about the forms: the patterns made are regularly irregular. The Painted forms that make up the pattern are fundamentally similar and individually distinct. The pattern records certain events that happen during the making process.

I aim to provoke questions and ideas that surround technology and its significant impact on society and art today. Whilst my paintings are done systematically as if made by machine, at closer inspection you can see the detail in the paint, the individual brush marks that make it human. My initial ideas of patterns and forms grew from my interest in the systematic and chaotic arrangements in geometry. My paintings are a testament to the effects of repetition, to respond, react and continue to grow as well as change. It is a representation of structures, both physical and social.
